Having Bible knowledge and understanding is great, however if the scriptures are not living and active in our lives, it is all in vain (Hebrews 4:12-13). The life application selections contain thoughts provoking, real life challenges that will prayerfully transform us to be more like Jesus in our spiritual journey. James 1:23-27 challenges us to not just merely listen or read the scriptures, it says “But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it.” Do not miss your blessings my friends!
Now the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will depart from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and the teachings of demons, through the hypocrisy of liars whose consciences are seared.
A friend and I were speaking about the subtleness of Satan’s schemes in Christians lives as we were contemplating on all the things that even those who say Jesus is their Lord choose to compromise in. Every Christian should be on guard against Satan because he has been a deceiver from the beginning (Genesis chapter 3-The fall of Man) and he is still the same today. Apostle Paul’s warning about Satan’s scheme is alarming throughout his ministry. Those of us who profess that Jesus is our Lord and Savior, are in a spiritual war. If we are not a student of Jesus through the Holy Spirit, we will be deceived by Satan’s demons. You may say not me! If that is the attitude of your heart, he has already deceived you.
Romans chapter 12 reflection prayer
Father God, I come before you in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. I pray you will clothe us with Jesus as we awake this morning and go about this day. Please open our eyes to see things through your purpose. Lord Jesus, we are asking that you show us how to use our gifts to inspire others to walk toward your throne of reconciliation. We pray that our thoughts will be continuously transformed to your will, not ours. Give us discernment to test every thought and decision that comes our way so that we will speak your Holy truth. Father, do not allow us to think of ourselves above anyone, create in us a sober heart in accordance with your will and purpose for our lives.
‘This decision is by the decree of the watchers, And the sentence by the word of the holy ones, In order that the living may know That the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, Gives it to whomever He will, And sets over it the lowest of men.’
Happy New year to all God’s children! As we read how the power of the Almighty God manifested in many scenarios in King Nebuchadnezzar’s life, let’s ponder upon our own lives. How often does God do miracle after miracle in our lives by rescuing and blessing us and yet we continue to boast on our accomplishment and success as if we are the orchestrator of our life journey. The verse above was written by God to the king after God was fed up with his arrogance and lack of humility. He did not acknowledge that it was Jehovah who was working in his life and allowed him to succeed during his reign.
"Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to turn" 'a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law— a man’s enemies will be the members of his own household.'
There are so many examples we can use in our world to demonstrate Jesus’ point in the passage above. Each of us can probably think of situations where members of our families and friends have shunned us for our faith in Jesus Christ. We live in a society that no longer appreciates absolute ideas or convictions. The word compromise, acceptance and fluid ideas are embraced more as the norm.
When they saw the star, they were filled with joy! They entered the house and saw the child with his mother, Mary, and they bowed down and worshipped him. Then they opened their treasure chests and gave him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
I love this time of the year! Not because I get to celebrate the birth of Jesus but because I get to share Jesus with the world. As a Christian, the celebration of Jesus’ birth and resurrection (Easter) should be celebrated every day. In case you are not aware, there is no certainty that December 25th is the accurate birthdate of Jesus. Nonetheless, that should not stop us from using the opportunity to share the Good News of the Gospel with a world that so desperately needs a Lord and a Savior.
Iyov got up, tore his coat, shaved his head, fell down on the ground and worshipped; he said, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I will return there. Adonai gave; Adonai took; blessed be the name of Adonai.”
This verse is found in Job chapter one after God allowed Satan to strike everything that was meaningful to Job. The Holiday is approaching. For some, it will evoke feelings of joy, excitement, happiness, and memorable times. And for others, the holiday will provoke feelings of pain, sadness, sorrow, guilt/shame, grief, anger, loneliness, etc. My prayer for each one of us, like Job, no matter what situation you find yourself in, praise God who can see you through positive and negative circumstances in your life. For we have a High Priest in Jesus Christ who can sympathize with us in every way (Hebrews 4:15).
