2 Corinthians 3:12-17 NIV
Therefore, since we have such a hope, we are very bold. We are not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face to prevent the Israelites from seeing the end of what was passing away. But their minds were made dull, for to this day the same veil remains when the old covenant is read. It has not been removed, because only in Christ is it taken away. Even to this day when Moses is read, a veil covers their hearts. Whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
We might read this passage and miss the incredible gift that God, through Jesus Christ, has given us. What veil are we continuing to hold over our face?
If you have heard Jesus’ call and respond by confessing your sins, continuously repenting, getting baptized in his name and not living by the standard of your flesh, then you have been set free! Therefore, you no longer are bound to guilt that we often carry as a veil over our lives. I know there are times I find myself feeling stuck and confused. During those moments, as I cry to Jesus for help, I usually find that I am carrying someone's burden or my old sinful nature. Jesus says he is the way, the truth and life (John 14:6) and he says those the son sets free are free indeed (John 8:36). Like the Israelites we say Jesus is Lord, yet we continue to deny His power by living under the old covenant. We let the opinions of the world around us dictate our mood and conviction from embracing that we have been set free. Let us hold fast to the promises of God as we strive toward holding on to the freedom that Christ has gifted us instead of living a defeated life. Do you believe God when he says you are a new creation? Jesus took our burden, tore the veil that we had before we met him. Let us live as free children from Satan's bondage! That is why the passage above says, "Whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away."
