The Battle Against Pride: A Call to Humility and Service

My friend, when you think of the word serving, what is your posture?
Is it self-glory, self-gain, or perhaps even complaint?

Satan, our enemy, promotes pride. And lead humanity to believe it is a strength
But Jesus calls His followers to win this battle through humility and service.

No matter what the enemy may have led you to believe, service is not weakness; it is evidence that Christ is truly living in you.

Jesus Modeled Service—even to His Betrayer

When Jesus washed the disciples’ feet, He served all of them, including Judas, the one who would betray Him. John 13:11 reminds us that Jesus knew exactly who would betray Him, yet He still served him.

My friend, Jesus, did not serve out of weakness, He served out of authority.
➡️ He knew who He was in the Father.
➡️ He knew His power.
➡️ Yet… He chose humility.

A Disciple Imitates Jesus

Jesus’ teachings and His example are not given for us to simply read and admire. They are given for us to imitate and live out.

The word disciple comes from the Greek word μαθητής (mathētēs), meaning a learner, a student, one who follows a teacher not only in knowledge, but also in lifestyle, character, and obedience.

A disciple does not just hear Jesus…
A disciple becomes like Jesus.

Jesus lived a life of service and sacrifice. A true disciple does not seek to be elevated, but seeks to serve.

Jesus Calls Us to Serve Without Conditions

Luke 6:32–36 (NIV)
“If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them… But love your enemies, do good to them… Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High…”

My friend, kingdom service is not conditional.

It is easy to serve those who are kind to us, but Jesus calls us to serve even those who hurt us. A powerful example of this is found in Luke 10:30–37.

This is not natural…This is supernatural. This is the evidence of transformation.
This is what separates a believer from a true disciple.

When we serve like Jesus, humility positions us for God’s power.

James 4:6 (NIV)
“God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.”

My friend, pride resists God, but humility positions you to receive His grace.

When you choose humility, you are not lowering yourself, you are positioning yourself for God’s power. Humility is not putting yourself down; it is choosing not to put yourself first.

When you walk in that posture, you begin to look like Jesus.

My friend, is this your life in Christ Jesus?

If it is not, it is never too late to repent and begin to walk as He did.
