Weekly Reflection

Romans 5:6-8 NIV

By Annaika Dastine | Founder, Who Is This Jesus? Ministry

"You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."

Pause for a moment. Let that sink in.

Powerless.
Ungodly.
Sinners.

That is where His love met us.

Not when we had it together.
Not when we were righteous.
Not when we were worthy.

Because we will never be worthy to receive God’s grace and mercy. It is a gift given with the full knowledge that we do not deserve it. Through Jesus, God has given us His gift of freedom and salvation from Satan’s bondage while we were still in rebellion against His will, hoping that we would choose His gift of love.

My friend, where do you see yourself in that list?

Because I know for me… I ran to Jesus when I was powerless. I ran again when I was ungodly. And I still run to Him daily because I am a sinner in need of grace. There is nothing good or righteous about our lives that would ever make us worthy of the cross.

Are you processing all of this?

You and I, no matter where we are in our lives or how badly we have messed up, have access to grace, mercy, and forgiveness through Jesus’ blood. Even knowing that most of humanity would choose darkness, God still chose the cross because those who say yes are worth His sacrifice.

This is the truth we must confront:

God’s love is not conditional.
It is not based on your performance.
It is not based on your past.
It is not based on your ability to “get it right.”

It is based on His character.

1 John 4:10 (NIV)
“This is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.”

So the question is not:
“Does God love me?” or “How can I display His love in my daily life?”

The question is:

Are you willing to step into that love… and be transformed by it—and become an ambassador who shows the world how to love?

Because walking in love requires something:

Dying to self.
