Isaiah 26:3-4 NLT
You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you! Trust in the Lord always, for the Lord God is the eternal rock.
As you read this scripture, you might be experiencing a difficult trial where you are discouraged and feel defeated. You might find yourself saying, why am I not in perfect peace when I trust in God? This passage makes me think of the story in Mathew 14: 22-33 when Peter walked on water. The scripture says Peter got down and walked on water but when he lost his focus on Jesus and started focusing on the wind that is when he started sinking. The question we need to ask ourselves during the difficult times in our lives is, who or what are our thoughts fixed on?
The scripture says to “Trust in the Lord always, for the Lord God is the eternal rock.” Learning to trust God and keeping our thoughts fixed on his promises during tough times is what brings us the perfect peace that God promises. For example, knowing that in this earth we will have trials and tribulations (John 16:33) and knowing that it’s not eternal because there is a time where our tears will be wiped from our eyes (Revelation 21:4), those promises should bring us perfect peace as we trust in God through Jesus Christ. Our trials come and go but God is eternal. Therefore, “fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God” (Hebrews 12:2) is the only path to the perfect peace we seek in God.
