1 Peter 3:19-20 NIV
After being made alive, he went and made proclamation to the imprisoned spirits--- to those who were disobedient long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built.
God's plan is for everyone to get the opportunity to be redeemed. As humans, we are all spiritual beings who God desires to bring back into his eternal glory. I have always been amazed by the fact that Jesus went to minister to the spirits who were imprisoned by God because of their disobedience (Genesis 6:5-8). Reading this passage, God opened my eyes to see the incredible power in the mission that Jesus left his disciples which is “to Go and make disciples of all nations" (Mathew 28:16-20). When Jesus was made alive after his death, he went to minister to the Spirits of the dead from long ago. Jesus did what he knew no mortal men could do to start the completion of God's plan. Through the power of his second life after he was made alive, he started his ministry to restore and revive the world where humankind initially broke God’s heart. The passage says in Genesis 6:6,9.
"The Lord regretted that he had made human beings on the earth, and his heart was deeply troubled." God's goal is simple. When we are made alive again through acknowledging our need for Him, starting our journey of repentance, being baptized in Jesus' name and declaring Jesus as Lord, we walk out of that water as a new creation (Galatians 3:26-28, Romans 6:1-14), filled with God's spirit with the purpose to minister to a lost world. Although we are still in this world, we no longer live to please the worldly flesh (1Peter 2:11, John 17:14, Ephesians 2:19-22. 2 Corinthians5:1-10, 17). One of God’s purposes through Jesus Christ is to create a new humanity through those of us who have said yes to his gift of Grace, peace and the power of reconciliation (Ephesians 2:15-16). Our purpose as new creations of God are to be ambassadors of our Lord to minister the Word of truth and Salvation to a lost and confused world, with the hope that they will return home.
