Weekly Reflection

Psalm 3:3-4 NIV

But you, Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high.  I call out to the LORD, and he answers me from his holy mountain.  I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the Lord sustains me.

As I read this scripture, I picture myself in the middle of a war zone that I must go through to make it to my destination.  As I am traveling through that war zone that seems never ending, I am in protective armor that protects me from all weapons fired at me by the enemy.  The war zone, for me, signifies the earth that we live in and how it is filled with different weapons of mass destruction. Nevertheless, we must navigate through and fight not to be destroyed as we strive to make it to heaven and to get to spend eternal life with God.

The protective armor is the blood of Jesus and the Holy Spirit that protects us from the weapons the enemy utilizes and sets as traps to keep us away from our destination by destroying our soul.  Are you protected?  Who or what do you rely on for your security? Who do you rely on to give you high praise?  Who do you call when you are in distress?  When you call out to the Lord, what is your position in that interaction, a friend (John chapter 14 &15)?   God says he grants sleep to those he loves (Psalm127:2).  How is your sleep going?  Is God the sustainer of your soul when you are awake or sleeping?  You know your life. Examine if you are secure under the protection of God.  If you are not, start learning how you can be protected through Jesus Christ by letting his commands become your shield and your glory.
