1 Peter 3:16-NIV
Keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander.
How is your conscience? The context of the chapter is about the humility of our heart as we tell the world about our faith and belief in Jesus Christ. Have you ever found yourself saying, I don’t care what others think about what I do and how I live my life? I know for me, I made that comment many times before I understood what it meant to no longer live for myself as a Christian. Since Jesus calls his followers to be the light of the world (Mathew 5:14), it does matter how the world perceives my behaviors. Can you confidently say your conscience is clear because your behaviors are according to God’s standard? I don’t know where you are in life. Assess your attitude and actions. Ask yourself, will Christ be able to defend you against your enemies while reflecting on your lifestyle?
