Weekly Reflection

Mathew 2:10-11-NLT

When they saw the star, they were filled with joy! They entered the house and saw the child with his mother, Mary, and they bowed down and worshipped him. Then they opened their treasure chests and gave him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

I love this time of the year! Not because I get to celebrate the birth of Jesus but because I get to share Jesus with the world.  As a Christian, the celebration of Jesus’ birth and resurrection (Easter) should be celebrated every day.  In case you are not aware, there is no certainty that December 25th is the accurate birthdate of Jesus.  Nonetheless, that should not stop us from using the opportunity to share the Good News of the Gospel with a world that so desperately needs a Lord and a Savior.

Yes, the world uses Christmas as a time to indulge in materialistic things and oftentimes doesn’t even focus on Jesus as the gift.  Instead, many focus on themselves instead of the true meaning of Jesus who came to serve and not to be served (Mark 10:45). My Prayer is for each of us to teach our children about Worshiping Jesus not Santa. Santa is a distraction that the enemy allowed the world to invent to stop us from teaching and focusing on God as our provider who gives us everything through the birth of Jesus, the ultimate gift. Let us bow down and worship our Lord Jesus just as the Magi did when they saw him. And let us give him the gift that he wants, a broken and contrite heart (Psalm 51:17) “For to us a child is born… Mighty God Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace….” Isaiah 9:6-7.
