Weekly Reflection

Luke 5:16 NIV

But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.

The Posture of Prayer

As I read this…
I find myself longing for those quiet moments with Jesus,
to simply be with Him and learn from Him.

Jesus constantly sought the Father through prayer,
showing complete dependence on God.

My friend, if Jesus needed to pray…
How much more do we?

My friend, the disciples did not ask Jesus how to preach.
They did not ask Him how to perform miracles…
They asked Him one thing:

“Lord… teach us to pray.” (Luke 11:1)

Because they recognized there was something different—
something deeper—about the way Jesus communicated with the Father.

And Jesus responded not with a performance,
but with a pattern of communication.

My friend, within the pattern Jesus gave us,
He revealed the posture of a true heart in prayer.

Prayer is not about saying the right words;
it is about approaching God the right way.
It flows from a heart that is humble, surrendered, dependent, and honest before Him.

We come with humility and reverence,
recognizing that He is God and we are not.

We surrender and align our will with His,
understanding that prayer is not about God agreeing with us,
but about us yielding to Him.

We depend on Him daily,
knowing that everything we have and need comes from His hand.

We come with confession and repentance,
offering a broken and honest heart before God,
acknowledging where we have chosen ourselves over Him.

We extend forgiveness to others,
understanding we cannot ask for mercy while withholding it.

And we trust Him fully,
relying on Him not only for provision but for protection.
Knowing we are in a spiritual battle, we cannot fight on our own.

My friend, prayer is not meant to be an occasional act;
it is the evidence of a living relationship with God.

It is how we walk in humility,
how we surrender,
how we depend,
how we confess,
how we forgive,
and how we trust.

When Jesus said,
“This is how you should pray…”

He was not giving us a script to repeat—
He was revealing the posture of a heart
fully surrendered to God.

And my friend…
If Jesus needed this kind of relationship with the Father,
how much more do we?
