“You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons; you cannot partake of the Lord’s table and of the table of demons.”
You Cannot Have Both: The Lord’s Table or the Table of Demons
Paul’s warning is clear: we cannot claim fellowship with Christ while indulging in what honors Satan. Yet this is the very deception Satan spreads—that we can have both Jesus and the world.
This week, as many celebrate Halloween, countless people will knowingly or unknowingly participate in practices rooted in darkness. Some embrace witchcraft, divination, and the worship of idols as a way of life. Others, even while teaching and preaching God’s truth, flirt with Satan’s realm in the name of fun or in an attempt to reach the lost. Their actions communicate the opposite of what God calls us to be. They imply that we must celebrate or acknowledge Satan to prove he is evil. My friend, that may sound extreme, but this is exactly what happens when we join the world in celebrating a holiday that has nothing to do with God through Jesus Christ and everything to do with Satan, the devil, and his demons.
But Scripture Calls Us to Be Set Apart
To Disobey God Is to Become His Enemy
To Disobey Is to Grieve the Spirit
Paul also warns in 2 Thessalonians 2:9–10 that Satan works through deception, signs, and false wonders, making sin appear righteous. And many souls today are bound by these lies.
Yet our hope rests in this: God is sovereign, and He knows those who will choose the narrow gate (Matthew 7:13–14).
Prayer for Mercy
Father, my heart is heavy as I see so many deceived by the enemy. Yet I thank You for rescuing me from darkness and opening my eyes to the truth. Lord, I know You can do the same for others, just as You have done for me.
I lift before You my family entangled in witchcraft, my community choosing sin, leaders who have compromised, believers who are weak, and seekers who are searching for truth. Break the chains of the enemy, Lord. Let this season awaken hearts to the reality of Satan’s schemes and to the greater power of Your Spirit.
Father, have mercy on those who are blind and harassed by the enemy. Call them out of darkness and into the marvelous light of Your Son. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
