Weekly Reflection

Mathew 6:13-CJSB

And do not lead us into hard testing but keep us safe from the Evil One.

Throughout the Old Testament, God has always conveyed his heart for community or group not individualism. If you study Judaism, you will notice that Jesus’ prayer covers the different elements that are common in their prayers.  Jesus in his prayer reflects God’s heart.  God’s plan has always been community which he attempted to build with the Israelites. Some may wonder, why does Jesus pray for God not to lead us into temptation?  Let’s remember everything that takes place does not happen outside the will of God (Ephesians 1:11, Mathew 10:29, Psalm24:1, Acts 4:27-29; etc.).   God allows us free will, which started in the Garden of Eden when Adam and Eve chose to eat from the forbidden tree.  Therefore, being led into temptation always manifests by our own desires (James 1:14-15).  The choices we make using our free will can lead us into temptation according to our desire.  Our free will either leads us toward God or away from God.  What or who are you being led by to use your free will?
