Jesus is God The Messiah: Part 1
Part 1- Introduction
Growing up as a child, I learned about Jesus through the religious school that I attended. Unfortunately, I recall learning more about the significance of Jesus' mother Mary instead of Jesus at an early age. Indeed, I believe Mary the mother of Jesus is an earthly, significant part of His existence. In fact, scriptures tell us that she was highly favored by God (Luke 1:28). However, as I grew older, I began to question who is this Jesus? God allowed my curiosity to be nurtured through both trials and victories. In John 14:6, Jesus declared " I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the father except through me." Jesus’ message in this scripture, I believe, answers a fundamental question that is often asked. What is the path to God's eternal glory? I often hear the statement 'There are many ways to God'. During Jesus' ministry, He was very plain in His answer about how we get to God. As we study Jesus’s ministry, we will read about His clear understanding that people would reject His sacrificial act to bring us back to God. I believe Jesus’ statement in the passage above was absolute and with authority. He left no room for doubt or confusion. I have always asked myself and I would like to pose to you, as you join me in this journey, these questions: Do you want to find ‘The Path’ to God our Creator? (He is the way) Do you want ‘The Truth’? (He is the Truth) Do you want 'The Life'? (He is the Life) Yes, I do believe that Jesus is the only way to the physical and spiritual reconnection that we all so desire with God which was tarnished at the Garden of Eden (Genesis 3:1-24). I believe with absolute confidence that He is the only way to God because my life is a testimony that Jesus is the only life that keeps my heart beating in a world that is so spiritually empty for truth.
In this ministry we will study Jesus through scriptures and applicable life experiences that will prayerfully give you some insight on Who this Jesus is. Although I may reference points from different spiritual warriors who Jesus has utilized to impact my life, most of the insights shared will be from the Holy Scriptures in the Bible. I will also use different Bible versions including Greek/Hebrew Bibles to study the scriptures.
Jesus, the Father, and the Holy Spirit are One
When you hear “The Father, The Son and the Holy Spirit” what comes to your mind?
When I hear the Trinity “Father, Son and the Holy Spirit” I think of my life. For example, I am Annaika, there is only one of me. However, even though I am one person I have different roles and attributes such as being a disciple of Jesus Christ, a Mother, a Wife, a Friend, etc. These roles that I carry out for different purposes do not change the fact that I am Annaika. I see the Trinity the same way as the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit are all one higher power (God) that have distinct functions for different purposes.
In John 1: 1-18, describes for us the beautiful work of the Trinity.
In verse 1-3 from the book of John, the writer brought to our attention the truth about God's word "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made"
As we dive into this incredible puzzle of who Jesus is, let us ponder for a moment Genesis 1:1-5 "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning---the first day.”
What John Chapter one (1) is bringing to our attention is that Jesus was present when God created the world. You may wonder as you read Genesis, God and the Spirit were there but there was no mention of Jesus, the Son. I would like to draw your attention back to Genesis Chapter 1 and as you read it, count how many times God spoke the world into existence. I counted 13 times (NIV Version) where God spoke the creation of the world into existence. Keep this thought in mind as we go back to John Chapter 1.
